Hi Guys! I’m talking about something today that a lot of people don’t seem to like to talk about: branding yourself. I think the difference between successful bloggers and bloggers like me can be summed up in one word: brand. Bloggers who have gained large followings have done so through hard work, consistency, and staying “on brand.” Ugh! What an annoying phrase.
Actually, let me re-phrase that: I admire bloggers who have a brand, who stick to their style, or rather, have a style that they are able to stick to. Does that make sense? For me, I love a cute, preppy outfit that belongs in Palm Beach, but I also sometimes like to throw on a slouchy cardigan from Anthropologie. Unfortunately blogging makes me feel like that’s not normal, or worse, that it’s not natural. But that’s totally false! I understand constancy is important in blogging, in order to grow a following, you have to have people know that they can count on you to post X times a week and that you’ll always inspire them with X types of outfits, but I want to change that.
I blog for those girls who work a 9-5 corporate job, but still like to dress their age (I’m 22) on the weekends. Because HELLO those are two completely different outfits. I blog for those girls who like to wear Lily Pulitzer resort wear during the summer, but sometimes lean towards all-black outfits when they go out to a bar in the city. I wish I could stick to one thing, I wish I could narrow down my style to one kind of clothing store, but that’s not real, at least not for me.
Right about now is when I find myself thinking, it’s just because I’m not a professional, this is just a hobby, if I was able to be more committed then I would have been able to “brand” myself by now. Maybe. But then again I’m not so sure… What I think it comes down to is that I know to my core I am a preppy person. I love conservative outfits with bright colors and popped colors. Hello growing up stealing my mom’s wardrobe (hehehe). On the other hand, I started this blog to push myself out of my comfort zone, because I want to dress more like a 22-year-old and less like a soccer mom (albeit stylish soccer mom). So there it is, maybe I don’t have a brand yet because the purpose of my blog is to mesh two entirely different styles in hopes of pushing myself out of my comfort zone. There you have it!
Now for some thoughts on this cute, yet cozy outfit: This slouchy cardigan from Anthropologie is so soft I want to lounge in it, sleep in it, and well, live in it! I think it’s pretty easy to throw this on with some leggings and curl up on the couch with a glass of wine, which is why I wanted to show you how you can throw this cardigan on before you head out to the bar with your friends. And of course these knee-high boots spice up any outfit, taking this cardigans far away from frumpy as you can get! Outfit details below!
