Trying to be excited that it’s Monday, but rainy weather this morning is making me want to stay in bed all day (or at least past 5:30…). I am still so surprised with how warm the weather has been! It hasn’t been easy trying to style and shoot fall outfits when the temperature is averaging between 70-80˚. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed the challenge of finding fall outfits that are appropriate for the summer temperatures. I’ve also been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and wear more age appropriate things (something I talked about on my Instagram story a few weeks back). When people think “dressing age appropriate” the typical connotation is a 40-50 year-old woman dressing like a 20 year-old. In my case I feel like I’m doing the exact opposite of that! People have called me out for dressing “like a mom” for years now and so I’ve finally decided to work on spicing up my wardrobe with age appropriate pieces!
One trendy pattern this season (that I love) is tartan. Obviously tartan has been around for a while, but I think this fall it’s all about using tartan to create a statement piece, like these pants! I had so much fun pairing these trendy tartan pants with my classic Barbour (which sports tartan pattern on the interior of the jacket and the cuffs on the sleeves). As much of a statement piece as these pants are, the somewhat muted colors make it feel like a neutral. You could definitely pair these pants with almost anything; I considered styling this outfit with a bright colored top, like the mustard yellow that is also on trend this fall (but…I’m not really a mustard yellow person, so there’s that…). Instead I opted for mixing my neutrals, outfit details below!
turtleneck: Urban Outfitters • pants: Sanctuary • tote: J. McLaughlin (similar here, here)• booties: Jack Rogers • sunglasses: RayBan • necklace: Madewell (similar here, here)
the scoop: I’m wearing an xs in this turtleneck // wearing a xs in these pants and they are SO comfy, they’re like a dressier version of leggings (definitely my go-to travel pants) // I’ve been posting a lot in these booties, but that’s just because they are so cute and comfy! // I’ve linked two totes and necklaces at two different price points, let me know what you think!
Happy Monday! Is tartan a pattern you’re incorporating into your fall wardrobe?
