Let’s talk about journaling. Like, let’s s e r i o u s l y talk about journaling. If you’re not journaling or don’t even know where to begin, that’s okay! By the end of this blog post I promise I’ll have you convinced that it’s a must! Without a doubt building 5-10 minted of journaling into my daily routine has been transformative for my health, wellbeing, and business. I’m sharing 25 solopreneur journaling prompts to build confidence and motivation along with all the reasons why I LOVE journaling!
As a solopreneur one of the biggest struggles is staying motivated. Sure we chose this path, but nonetheless it’s a lonely one! Personally I’ve always struggled with intrinsic motivation. External motivation on the other hand, I’d give myself a gold medal in every time. Ever since leaving my job in the corporate world finding that intrinsic motivation day after day has always been my Achilles heel…
Surprise! Journaling solved that problem!
I made very few goals in 2021 (learned my lesson from last year, amiright?!). One of the goals I did make was to start journaling daily and to take it seriously. So far I’ve stuck to this an wow, it’s made such a difference! My journaling varies from day to day, but for the most part I do one of the following types of journaling:
First Type: Spend 5-10 minutes in the morning answering a prompt
Second Type: Spend 5-10 minutes before I go to bed reflecting on the day & planning what I want to achieve tomorrow
Third Type: (Less often) Spend 5-10 minutes mid-day when an idea comes to mind that I really want to get down on paper

The first type of journaling that I do is perhaps my favorite. I LOVE answering prompts. Maybe it’s because it takes me back to my creative writing classes in college, but a good prompt can really get my wheels turning! I gather all my prompt inspiration on Pinterest and then I save my favorites on the “Notes” app on my phone. *Make sure to keep scrolling because I’m sharing 25 of my favorite solopreneur prompts at the bottom of this post!*
The second type of journaling that I do has really improved my quality of sleep. Prior to journaling I’d been struggling with sleeping soundly for the past year or so, which is strange for me because I’d never struggled with this before. The combination of putting away my phone 2+ hours before bed along with reflective journaling has done wonders for me! No more restless nights tossing & turning. Instead, I’m sleeping soundly and waking up feeling refreshed!
Being more well rested allows me to stay more focused while working and I no longer need to take a nap mid day. (Yes, I was actually so tired that I needed to take naps mid day prior to my reflective bedtime journaling.) I really can’t believe how something as simple as journaling before bed has completely transformed my daily life!
The third type of journaling isn’t one I do daily. I only journal mid-day when something comes to mind that I want to work through or make sure I remember. The act of actually taking a step back and let my thoughts marinate has really helped me work through things like…
-reevaluating my brand values
-fleshing out my ideal client/target audience
-& other big overarching tasks that before this seemed really scary and dearly impossible!
