Hi Monday, it’s me again! Let me start by saying, these aren’t my first pair of polka-dot Pilcro pants… Oops! Hey, I’m not ashamed though because Pilcro and the Letterpress is such quality brand and I somehow snagged these pants for under $25! Crazy! (Originally $108 from Anthropologie). I constantly struggle between buying cute, trendy, statement pieces and sticking to a capsule wardrobe. I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe! It seems so freeing, so wallet-friendly, and so easy! All I have to do is grab a pair of pants (probably jeans) and in theory they should work with basically any of my tops in said capsule wardrobe, which are all staples (like your classic navy sweater, or white t-shirt, etc.) And of course what doesn’t go with a timeless jean or leather jacket?
Obviously these polka-dot pants don’t check off any boxes to make the cut in a capsule wardrobe. Double oops. I’m pretty far away from achieving a closet full of only classics, but maybe I’ll get there one day. For now I think my goal is to work towards a balance of thoughtfully adding fun, trendy pieces to my wardrobe, while also saving up so I can invest in high-quality classics. Trying to build my platform as a style blogger I need to share unique ways to style trendy pieces in order to inspire you guys! With that being said, I am definitely contemplating a “capsule wardrobe month” where all I post are outfits composed of the same few staple items in a capsule wardrobe. (I’m not going to go and toss 90% of my clothes, but I’ll challenge myself to only work from a select group of pieces.) Hey, that kind of sounds like fun challenge!
While I just said I’m not going to toss 90% of my clothes to completely embrace a capsule wardrobe lifestyle, one thing I’m certain I have to do is a closet cleanse. Who else is with me? I haven’t done one in soooo long and I am mortified every time I open my closet door. Do you cleanse your closet and if so how often? What are your rules for knowing when to say goodbye to certain pieces? Please share, I need all the help I can get!
Outfit details below!
sweater: Anthropologie • pants: Pilcro* • shoes: Supergas
*there were plenty of these pants in the Anthro store I went to, but it looks like they’re basically sold out online. I would call the store and check availability if you’re dying to own these like I was!
