Wow, it’s Wednesday already!?! I’ve been pretty busy these days, but all these projects on my plate have made me even more excited for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas and Colorado! This will be my first time out in Las Vegas over the age of 21! How funny! I haven’t been out there in years, but have visited more than a few times when I was really young to visit my Grandparents.
Remember the other weekend when my mom and I went into NYC to visit The RH Rooftop Restaurant ? After our meal, we made our way to SOHO to check out The Real Real store. We had been itching to go for a while now and this seemed like the perfect time to check it out! For those of you who don’t know what The Real Real is, it’s most well-known for being an online luxury consignment shop with an unbeatable reputation. I’m pretty sure everything is triple authenticated or something crazy like that!
The Real Real semi-recently opened up a storefront in NYC and it’s a pretty popular place for tourists and local alike. After visiting their SOHO brick and mortar location, I wanted to share my experience with you guys and help you decide whether it’s worth it or not on your next trip into NYC (whether you’re traveling from Fairfield County for the day, or traveling from far away).
Here’s the thing: One of my few talents is being able to know how much resale stuff should be marked for. Honestly, I’ve spent so much time in consignment shops that I instantly know when the price is right vs. the price is marked up. Do the math, buying your resale items in NYC in prime retail space isn’t going to be the most cost-effective purchase you make and the prices at The Real Real reflect that.
Of course it’s still a pretty cool place to browse around. The Real Real is quintessentially SOHO, located on a cobblestone street and it’s only steps away from the One Kings Lane showroom (which I really wanted to check out, but it was closed when we were just in the city).
If you’re planning on attending an event where you want to look like a million bucks and wear something different, then check this place out!
No, but really, this place is a gold mine for one-of-a-kind couture/runway pieces.
While I’m no expert at resale Chanel bags, I kind of thought that The Real Real’s prices were a bit higher than you should be paying, I definitely think you can get a cheaper price if you shop around online and I have to say, I’m still more impressed by my Greenwich, CT go to shops (oh hey Consigned Designs and Couture Dossier).
The Real Real store gets new stuff in every day; obviously it’s worth popping in, especially if you’re in the area! Right down the street is one of my favorite bars- Carroll Place— and you’ve got Sweets by Chloe just a few steps away from that!
I’d suggest working your way down from The Real Real, to One Kings Lane, to the bar and then grab yourself a cupcake. It’s a great outing and you’ll have a blast. Would I buy something from The Real Real’s store in SOHO? Probably not. It’s overpriced IMO and if I’m going to invest in a designer bag I am certainly going to search high and low to find the best price for it (and I can promise you, you won’t find the best price here).
Do you shop second hand? I’m a huge fan of upscale resale stores like The Real Real, but as I said earlier, my favorite stores are in Greenwich, CT! If you ever have any questions about resale, just email me! Before you go, don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter! Later today my No-Shop March Month Theme is going to be announced along with a few other exclusive pieces of content that will go live at 5:00pm tonight! Plus I finally figured out a great name for my newsletter. Finally!!
