If you’re looking for a fun way to get together with friends this fall, consider hosting a fall picnic! This fall has pushed me to be a bit more creative and think outside the box with ways to get together with friends. At the moment I feel most comfortable outside, which is why this lake-front picnic seemed like a no-brainer! Keep reading for all the details on how to throw the perfect fall picnic with Annie Selke!
Before you go, make sure you check out Claire’s (@homewiththewileys), Kristy’s (@kristynewengland), and Caitlin’s (@caitlinhoustonblog) fall picnic posts on their blogs! And a huge thank you to Shannon Shipman for inviting us up to visit her at this gorgeous lake house!
I’ve always admired Annie Selke’s home decor. It’s classic with a coastal twist, which of course I love! That’s why, when planning this fall picnic, bringing in some of Annie Selke’s pieces came to mind first! It’s no secret that Annie Selke has some of the best indoor/outdoor rugs around and our lake-front picnic certainly put them to the test!
These 6x9ft indoor/outdoor rugs gave us plenty of room to spread out and set up the perfect picnic! After finding some level ground to lay down the rugs, we added some of Annie Selke’s oversized poufs, decorative pillows, and a cozy throw blanket! It’s never a bad idea to have few blankets on hand as the weather starts to get chillier!
Side note: I’m always so impressed by the quality of Annie Selke’s pieces!
If you’re looking to recreate our fall picnic, then after placing your pillows, blankets, and poufs, you’ll want to start focusing on the details! We brought in some of Annie Selke’s gorgeous linens and placements to really define each person’s space. I also love the layered look the placemats add, and they ensured we wouldn’t spill any food on the rug! (Even if you did drop a few crumbs, though, these rugs are so easy to clean!)
Claire, Kristy, Caitlin, and I all agreed that an oversized grazing board seemed like the best way to enjoy our fall picnic. You could also just as easily do mini grazing boards for each friend! Our perfect fall grazing board consisted of…
-A variety of cheeses (ours were local to Vermont!)
-Fresh breads & an assortment of crackers
-Dried & fresh berries
-Chocolate chunks… because why not!
-Artisanal olives
-Nuts (feel free to leave these off if there’s an allergy!)
-A variety of meat(s)
-Decorative pumpkins/squash
The best part about our fall picnic? We get to keep enjoying these Annie Selke pieces in our homes! It was so much fun to bring a slice of indoor comfort outside, and now each time I fold one of these napkins or fluff these pillows, I’ll think back to the fun memories we had that fall afternoon!

What a dreamy location for an autumn picnic. I love this idea for a get-together with friends. I’ve been doing a lot of picnics with my husband lately on the lawn of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. It’s a beautiful outdoor space and we really enjoy just relaxing and playing card games or reading together while snacking and drinking some wine. It’s a lovely way to spend our time!
Hey Stephanie! Your picnics sound like a blast too, and what an amazing location!! Thanks for stopping by ๐
