Let me start by saying I spent a lot of time hemming and hawing over whether I “needed” the Apple Watch. I’m not the most tech-savvy person so I was worried that I’d end up only using the watch to tell time, in which case shelling out a couple hundred bucks seemed ridiculous! In case it isn’t obvious, I L.O.V.E my Apple Watch and can’t imagine a day without it. Actually, the handful of days I’ve forgotten to wear it I’ve found myself completely lost!
I’ve now had my Apple Watch for five months so I thought it was about time for me to share a comprehensive review. This post has two parts, I’m starting with a basic question/answer section and then a section focused on why I’m obsessed. The content might overlap a little bit, but I wanted to be thorough! Let me know what you think– do you own an Apple Watch? If so, which one? And are you as obsessed as I am?! (outfit details below)
shirt: Urban Outfitters (currently on sale for under $35!!!) • pants: Blank NYC (similair here) • mules: Karl Lagerfeld • purse: Coach (old) • sunglasses: Tory Burch • watch: Apple
the scoop: this shirt is currently on sale for $34, making me want to order it in another color! I am wearing a size xs, obviously the look is baggy. I think it’s true to size. // Weird fact about me: I buy my jeans from consignment shops because A) I love to save money and B) because then they’re always perfectly worn in on the first wear and I don’t have to wear them in myself! // These mules are on sale also right now for under $75!! Check it out! I’m wearing a 7.5 in the mules, but wear a 7 in all other Karl Lagerfeld shoes.
Q&A– The Apple Watch
Q: Which Apple Watch do you have?
A: I have the series 1.
Q: What’s the difference between series 1 and 2?
A: I decided against the series 2 because I don’t need anything waterproof (I don’t swim and think showering with your Apple Watch is kind of silly) and I didn’t think the GPS function independent of your cell phone was necessary. The series 2 can accurately track the route of your run/walk/bike with a GPS that doesn’t require having your cell phone on you. The series 1 still tells you your distance, but without your phone by your side it won’t tell you the exact route. I don’t think that’s a big deal personally! Also- I know the cellular Apple Watch is now available, I have no experience/exposure with the third series, so unfortunately I can’t be too helpful here, but check out the information on Apple’s website.
Q: Is it worth it?
A: Yes!!! (more on this below)
Q: How waterproof is the series 1?
A: I haven’t submerged my watch under water…I really haven’t had a need to, but the sales associate at the Apple Store told me that the series 1 is actually a lot more waterproof than they advertise. Apparently (and you can look up the water resistant classification online probably) you could technically submerge your series 1 watch wet for a short period of time and it will still be perfectly fine. I know when washing my hands water has run over the watch and mine still works. Also! I’ve been caught in torrential downpour rain storms with my watch being completely exposed and it survived that as well!
Q: Don’t you get distracted/tired of constantly being connected?
A: Nope. It actually isn’t nearly as disruptive as you’d think. There are a few different settings: sound on, silent (your watch will buzz on your wrist with any updates), and theatre mode (you won’t get any updates unless you engage the screen yourself). I find it so helpful/reassuring that I can be confident in knowing I will never miss an important phone call/text/email. I always keep my watch on the silent setting, because I still get the buzz when something comes through, but honestly it’s so easy to ignore the buzz and just get back to whatever I was doing. However, if I know I’m expecting a call back or an important text then obviously I don’t ignore the buzzing, which is such a lifesaver!
In case the question/answer format isn’t what you’re looking for, or in case you’re looking for some additional information, keep reading to find out exactly why I am obsessed with my watch…
Perhaps the biggest thing for me with the Apple Watch is the whole “out of sight, out of mind” saying. The Apple Watch puts a healthy lifestyle in sight and in your mind by constantly updating you with how many calories you’ve burned, how far you’ve walked, and how often you’ve stood up throughout the day. I would consider myself someone with a health lifestyle, but this watch has definitely kicked that up a notch! I love how my Apple Watch makes me aware of my daily habits, which ultimately pushes me to achieve more.
