Happy Friday Friends!! I’m sorry I’ve been MIA this week, but I’m back now!! I had so much fun the other night with a few of my blogger friends, Zac, Megan, and Nina, at a fun little floral arrangement class that Nielsen’s Florist hosted! For those who aren’t familiar, Nielsen’s Florist is located in Darien, CT and they have such great customer service and do beautiful floral arrangements! I think they’re planning on doing more events like these, so if you’d ever want to go to one let me know and I’ll make sure to pass along your information to them!

who invited me to this event, and to Land of Nod Winery, they’re out of Connecticut and their wines are amazing! I tasted a couple at this event and I’m in love!

Growing up we had these gorgeous blue hydrangea bushes in our backyard and as I got older one of my favorite things to do was assemble fresh arrangements with them for our dinner table, bedrooms, basically all over the house! Let’s be honest though, I had no idea what I was doing and still don’t! Or, at least until I attended this fun floral arrangement class with Nielsen’s!

The event was lead by Bob, who really is a genius when it comes to floral arrangements. And he’s the reason why my arrangement ended up turning out as great as it did (it’s so not easy!).

I walked away from this event with a gorgeous arrangement AND with a new skill! How cool is that?! While I won’t go into all the details of how the floral arrangement was done, I will share a few things!

How the flowers stay in place:

I am familiar with that green foam stuff that you drench in water and stick flower into, but we actually didn’t use that here! Instead, we made a 3×3 grid with clear tape at the opening of the vase and that’s how the flowers stay put. I think having the grid really helped me understand where to place the flowers and greenery.

Where do you even start?

This is something I always wondered. Where do I even start when putting together a gorgeous arrangement?! It seemed so daunting to me. Not anymore! (Okay, that’s a lie, I’m in no way an expert after this class.) The first step, after making our 3×3 grid of course, was to add the greenery. Easy! Not so much… I initially had my greenery a little too long so it wasn’t in proportion with the rest of the arrangement, but Bob helped me out with this! Crisis averted.

What’s the right number of flowers to use?

Apparently the rule here is you use odd numbers unless you only want to use 2 of a flower. Then that’s okay. So for instance in my arrangement here I’ve got 3 light pink roses and 3 white roses. I could have done 2 if I wanted to, but not 4. Makes perfect sense… ha!
