Hello friends! Today’s post is a really good one so let’s get right down to business! (It’s also a partnered post, more on that later.) Hands down my favorite thing about our new home so far is the closet situation. We’ve got LOTS of closets and I’ve fallen in love with every single one of them.
To take a walk down memory lane for a second, our apartment only had 1 closet. In the whole place. It was the size of a shoe box and was oh so conveniently located in the living room. Can you detect my sarcasm? While we don’t have a walk-in-closet in our master, we have an entire wall of closets and I couldn’t be happier! Guys, I even have a linen closet and not one, but 2 closets in my guest bedroom! Today we’re talking all about who made my closet organization dreams come true. Keep reading for the full scoop.
Jessica of Mss.Organized and I connected through a mutual friend- Mary (hi Mary!), and I feel like Jessica and I are now friends as well. There are so many things to rave about with Jessica, and one of them is the fact that she’s so easy to get along with. (How awkward would it be to have someone in your home organizing your life and not get along with them?… just saying).
Mss.Organized’s services were exactly what my boyfriend and I needed. Jessica set us up for success from day 1 (literally) with keeping our new place organized. She came over the morning after we moved in, which was a Saturday, and wasn’t overwhelmed at all. She just came over and we got right to work. (Side note- I wanted to be involved in the whole unpacking process because I figured I could learn a thing or two from Jessica. But, if you don’t want to be involved/ don’t have the time, that’s totally fine to.)
Jessica’s organizing business, Mss.Organized, is out of Fairfield County and services the surrounding areas as well. She has been doing this for many years now and is not only amazing at what she does, but she’s passionate about helping you find the best way to stay organized. For us, it was lots of hangers. Just look at the pictures!
Okay, this is a long blog post, so hang in there! I’m going to break down our day from start to finish. Here we go!
Jessica arrived at our new home the morning after we moved. Everything was a mess, but she didn’t judge us and wasn’t overwhelmed by it all. Thank goodness, because I sure was overwhelmed! We started in the master bedroom with my boyfriend’s clothing. Jessica and I unpacked all of his clothes onto our bed, sorted them into piles, and then evaluated the space we had and how it might be best to organize his clothing. We ample closet space in our master, which is why we went with hanging almost all of our clothing (plus, Jessica says it’s the easiest way to keep up with, versus folding, which takes more time).
My boyfriend’s closet is organized by clothing type and then color. It’s more amazing than I could have imagined. It just looks so organized- well, because it is! From left to right in the photo below you’ll see his long sleeve shirts, then the hanging shelves, which store his sweatshirts and shorts, followed by athletic t-shirts, regular t-shirts, and then his suits and button-downs. On the shelf above, we’ve folded his sweatpants, khaki pants, and some other sweatshirts that didn’t fit on the hanging shelves. I’m 100% certain that I wouldn’t have done half as good of a job as Jessica did. I mean, the photos speak for themselves- she had such a vision!
We quickly ran out of hangers after doing my boyfriend’s closet, so we made a quick run out to Home Goods for more (like a lot more), and then we were back home to start on my closet!
This entire process would have been so overwhelming for me if not for Jessica’s hard work and organizational skillset. We decided to stick with hanging most of my in-season clothing. Anything that wasn’t hung up in my closet was neatly folded in drawers. Apparently there is more than 1 way to fold your clothes?! News to me! Jessica is such a great teacher (and very patient), before the end of the day I’d learn not 1, but 3 new ways to fold clothes!
Jessica organized my closet by clothing type and then by color. I’ve got jackets all the way to the lefthand side followed by skirts, dresses, shirts, and then athletic clothes. I’m SO excited that I have a closet big enough to hang up my workout wear. Gone are the days of me showing up to my workout class in a wrinkled outfit!
Taking advantage of all the closet has to offer, Jessica suggested we use the shelf above my clothes for shoe storage and the space below my clothes (on the floor) for tote bag storage. I’m proud to say that I’ve kept this system up in the two weeks it’s been since Jessica was here organizing! I used one of my larger tote bags to store some of my smaller crossbody bags/evening bags that I don’t use all the time.
Something I can’t stress enough about Jessica is that she wants you to find a system that works for you! She’s not one of those crazy organizers who is going to throw what you say to the wind and just do what she wants to make it look good. She cares about your lifestyle and your needs and most of all, she listens!
At this point things were really turning around for our master bedroom! I could see the floor, the bed no longer had clothes thrown all over it, and both of our closets looked amazing! We were now on to the linen closet, located right outside of our master bedroom.
While at Home Goods, we grabbed a couple of bins to potentially use in the linen closet and I’m so glad Jessica made the suggestion. As I now know, bins are a super easy way to freshen up the look of household items and to keep things in their place. I love that my cleaning products belong in their specific bins. I feel like I’m more motivated to keep things neat since everything has a specific place.
Just like with my clothes, Jessica taught me how she likes to fold towels. I’ve stuck with it so far and plan on continuing to do so! There’s just something so satisfying to open my linen closet door and see how crisp it looks. I mean, if I’ve got my linen closet together, than I must have my life together right?! I’m going to keep telling myself that….
If you live in/around Fairfield County then Jessica of Mss.Organized is your person! I’m so grateful for all of her help and expertise, she really did such an amazing job. Not only did Jessica save me hours upon hours of unpacking myself, but she set me and my boyfriend up with an organizational system that actually works for our lifestyle. That right there is priceless. Without a doubt I know that neither of us would have put half as much effort into organizing our closets/life the way Jessica did. I’m 100% certain I would still be living out of boxes if not for Jessica unpacking me the day after our move. Okay, I think you get it. She’s amazing! End of story.
