Hi friends! Something crazy happened this week, Ranger went viral on Pinterest! What a surprise that was! Some of the pictures I posted of her on Pinterest got over 100k views in under 24 hours!! Anyway, in celebration of Ranger’s huge milestone this week today’s blog post is all about her…kind of… I’m sharing 5 reasons why you NEED a Maltipoo Puppy! Send this blog post to your parents, your significant other, basically anyone in your life who is currently on the fence!
Where to begin?! Obviously I’m in no way an expert on Maltipoos, but I do specialize in all things Ranger related. If you have Ranger specific questions, check out my blog post here. It’s where I answer all of my most frequently asked Ranger questions!
Okay, let’s start with the basics before we get into the 5 reasons why you need a Maltipoo puppy. Maltipoos are a mix between a Maltese and Toy Poodle. A quick Google search will tell you they range between 10-15lbs. Ranger weighs 5lbs and is full-grown, so I guess you never really know! Maltipoo puppies are also widely known as “Teddy Bear Puppies” and for good reason- they look like stuffed animal teddy bears. I can’t tell you how many times someone has come up to me and said, “Oh my gosh, it looks like you’re holding a stuffed animal!” Apart from looking cute, there are SO may other reasons why you should add a Maltipoo to your family!
Maltipoos are hypoallergenic, which is a fancy way of saying they don’t shed. Amazing!! I love everything about Ranger and I also love how I never have to worry about vacuuming dog hair. It’s important to brush your Maltipoo in order to avoid their fur from matting. Still, though, brushing to avoid matting isn’t something you have to do on a daily basis (like you would have to with a German Shepard or Golden Retriever).

This actually might be a down-side for some people depending on your lifestyle…but not for me! Maltipoos are known for being loving friends and for getting very attached to their owners. They thrive in an environment that allows them to spend ample time with humans. Ranger’s best days are when I’m working from home all day, or when I cave in and let her ride around town with me while I run all my errands. She LOVES running errands!
I don’t want to come out and say that Maltipoos rarely bark, but so far that’s what I’ve found to be true! Speaking from personal experience, Ranger rarely barks. For the most part she’s a really quiet doggie! I know some other Maltipoo owners and all of them (except for one) agree that their Maltipoos are very quiet.
What I will also say here is I’ve been very mindful of sheltering Ranger so to speak from barking dogs. What do I mean by this? Anytime I’ve gone on vacation my parents have been kind enough to watch Ranger. She hasn’t had to stay in a kennel yet and I’m hoping she never will! Again, I’m no expert here, but from talking to some of my other friends with Maltipoos, their dogs started barking more after staying in a kennel. I think just being around other dogs barking all the time teaches them to bark more often? Maybe?
I’d imagine there are certain breeds out there that are easier to train than Maltipoos. And I definitely know there are dog breeds much more difficult to train than Maltipoos too. To put this into perspective for you, at 6 months Ranger was completely house-trained. I think I could have worked a little harder to get her there sooner. I also think living in an apartment presents some challenges. Ranger didn’t have the instant gratification of pawing at a door and having me open the door to the outside. The door to our apartment leads to an indoor staircase, which probably confused her. She totally gets it now, but it wasn’t something that made sense to her right away.
[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3913881″]
As for training Ranger to listen to commands, she had sit and stay down by about 3 months. Lay down took a little longer. Again, I wasn’t super strict with working her on these things. If I really worked at it with her, Ranger could have had so many more commands down at 3 months!
Another reason why you should get a Maltipoo is that they’re a very healthy breed! Make sure you do your research and get your Maltipoo from a highly respected breeder. I got Ranger from a VERY reputable breeder and she shared with me her vet’s information so I was able to call up and find out about her dogs’ health histories. The dogs she breeds are healthy! Drop your information below to get Ranger’s breeders info directly in your inbox!
Again, this is not to say that having a healthy puppy and healthy adult dog is a guarantee just because you bought a Maltipoo. I wish that was how the world worked! What I can say is that at Ranger’s first vet visit (I use Rye Harrison Vet), she was 100% healthy. No worms, no flees, no nothing! And she’s been perfect ever since then.
*This also has everything to do with WHERE you get your Maltipoo. If you get your Maltipoo from a store in the mall (I 100% don’t agree with doing this–they get their puppies from puppy mills), then I can almost guarantee you your dog WILL be unhealthy. Where you get your Maltipoo from makes such a difference!
So have I sold you on a Maltipoo yet?! I hope you found these 5 reasons why you need a Maltipoo puppy to be helpful! As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any specific questions you might have! This is the kind of dog and also that color I am looking for where can I get one???
Hi Alex! I got ranger from a breeder in VA!
where in Virginia? Do they have a website?
Hi Patricia, I’ll send you an email! Thanks for reaching out!
Breeder of maltipoo information please
What kind is the puppy’s parents
Hi Chrissa, her parents were: Maltese & Toy Poodle
Hi!
What color was Ranger advertised as ? Apricot? And has she faded ?
Do you know her parents names?
Hi Debbie,
She is Apricot. She has gotten a lot lighter over the past year and a half. She used to be my exact hair color, but she’s still considered apricot even though she’s lightened up. If you’re looking for something darling than Ranger then I believe you’d be looking for “Red”.
Unfortunately I don’t remember her parent’s names, but if you ask the breeder what Ranger’s parents were she probably still has the records.
Best,
Helen
Thank you!
I am going to try to get one from your breeder. She has creams and apricots. They have the same parents ( Clara and Loki) as my brothers dog (they were able to get a red). And I have heard that the dogs might turn white. Can you send me a current picture of Ranger?
Thank you!
Debbie
Hi! https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Ovl-bgiMU/ There is a picture of her taken in the last couple of weeks. She is definitely no where close to being white or cream, but she’s definitely lighter than at birth.
She is SO STINKIN CUTE!!!!!
Do you have an opinion on female vs male maltipoo???
I’ve only ever had female dogs. Obviously I’m biased with Ranger because she’s perfect. Unfortunately I can’t speak to male maltipoos since I’ve never had one. Sorry I can’t be more help there! This is probably a better question for the breeder, she should be able to give you some insight š
Thank you so much for all of your information!!! Ranger is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
you’re welcome Debbie! š
Hi,
Would you share the breeder of your little one with me? Or any other breeder youāve heard of from happy pet parents?

Great information. Iām looking for an apricot or red maltipoo. Can you help me find a Breeder? I live in Oakland, TN. Willing to travel. Thank you so much.
Hi Mickey! I’ll send you an email with my breeder’s info!
Hello Helen
Do you know if both parents of your lovely Ranger have health clearances from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals for patellas (knees) and thyroid and from the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF) certifying that the eyes are normal, including a DNA test for progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
My sweet girl Molly ( Pomapoo ) who was in many of my Youtube videos died 2 days ago and in time i just know i will want another companion. With so many small breeds to choose from, i really want to find one that will be a nice match again for me ( i am at home 20+ hrs a day making Youtube videos ). How healthy overall is this particular mix? Is Ranger doing ok so far? I would like to look at another Pompoo perhaps but currently where i live in Canada i cannot find any so i was looking at perhaps other breeds that might fit the bill. Any feedback would be helpful. Thank you.
Hi there! I don’t believe Ragner’s parents have any health certifications, however, my breeder gave me her vet’s information so I was able to speak to the vet and confirm that the parents have healthy histories. So far Ranger has been perfect, no problems at all!
My breeder is out of VA, but you can get a nanny to fly your pup to you if needed.
Best,
Helen
what do you call you maltipoo????
Her name is Ranger š
Thank you so much for your helpful information. I have been seriously looking for just the right dog for myself and I think I have found it. I love the size, their little curls and their sweet little faces. I also live alone and am retired so I get somewhat lonesome. I need a little companion to love and take care of and take walks with and play with. I have had several dogs, birds, & cats but not for several years. I stay home mostly so I believe she would be just perfect for me, and I like the fact that they do not shed very much. I want one the color of your Ranger. She is so cute. I may not be able to get one, however, because they are rather expensive, but I will just have to see.
Thanks again for taking the time to talk to me.
Hi Debbie, glad to help out! Ranger is such a perfect pup, I want everyone to be able to find their perfect puppy as well!

Hi Helen,
Sadly, we recently lost our Maltese Shih Tzu after 15 amazing years with her. I grew up with a toy poodle who lived to be 19 — she was my birthday present on my 5th birthday and died almost 2 years after I graduated from college! I value these breeds and love the thought of a MaltePoo. Your pup is beautiful! I would really appreciate the info for his breeder.
Many thanks,
K.C.
Hi Katherine, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your pup. I too got a dog for my 5th birthday (a Bichon) and she lived until she was 17, which was amazing! I’m so lucky to have Ranger now who is the light of my life! You should see an embedded form in this blog post which will allow you to put your email in and then get Ranger’s breeder info sent directly to your inbox! Let me know if you have any other questions, thank you!
Best,
Helen
Hi! Loved your post! Ranger is absolutely adorbs! š Iāve been researching Hypoallergenic dogs for the sake of my twin boys who āused to be allergicā. Helen
Great Tips!
I really appreciate your efforts put on this post. Thanks for sharing this…
You’re SO welcome!!
Hi, do you know of any where in Canada that is a good breeder with happy owners
I have a 12 year old Maltipoo. He is the love you mention in your post. He actually was a rescue from the streets. As a puppy he has an abusive owner who dumped him on the streets at 1. He did have PTSD and was hard to love on and pet. I have bite scars from him but, neither myself or my husband even raised a finger to him. We understood.
I got a natural essence for PTSD for dogs and it worked wonders. He became the loving dog he was meant to be.
Since then he has been pure joy. I love him very much and dread the day he passes. It will be devastating as he is my buddy. I talk to him and he looks like he understands. So cute. He gets his way and he is so loved. He knows he is loved and adored. I wish he could live twice as long as dogs live but, we all know its not possible.
Charlie is pure joy
Please send me the name of your breeder. Ranger is adorable.
Thank you,
Brenda Fronczak
Hi,
garryandemma7@gmail.com
I really appreciate all the information you gave on your Maltipoo!
I am retired and thinking about getting a dog and looking for what I should get.
Could you please tell me where you got your puppy?
I live in Dallas, Texas so I suppose they would send the puppy to me if I were to purchase the puppy there.
Thank you!
I’ll be waiting for your suggustions!
Hello! I would love to have the contact info for the breeder you got Ranger from! Thanks!!
Can you tell me how much Ranger weighed when he was born? I have a maltipoo pup coming in Match
She weighed 7.2 oz At birth
She was the runt of the litter
Her daddy is 5 lbs
I am hoping she stays on the small size
I am interested in getting a puppy. Ranger is so adorable. Can you please send me your breeders information? Thanks so much!
Hello. I love your Maltipoo. We are looking for a reputable breeder. We live in PA and it would be worth the drive. How is the temperament after a couple of years? And how about the barking? If you could recommend a breeder that would be appreciated.
