Not only have I inherited my love of style from my mom, but I’ve also inherited her love for interior decorating! I’ve always been good at maximizing my space, it was a necessity to survive college, and to be honest, now that I’ve graduated my space hasn’t grown by much. I actually love the challenge that small rooms bring. With minimal space you have to be deliberate in your balance of decorating and organizing, you have to find functional pieces, and a color palette that doesn’t overwhelm.
I am so happy with how my bedroom turned out, keep reading to find out how I achieve maximum style in this minimal space!
My favorite color palette, especially for a smaller space, is staying light and white. I think it’s important to keep your tiny space as light as possible so it doesn’t feel claustrophobic or stuffy! This tip is great for the wallet as well; when you start off with a blank slate (your light/white theme) then you can always switch it up in small ways that make a large impact. I have two words for you: pillows & throws. I understand that it might get boring looking at the same white duvet with the same white pillows and the same…well you get it… but all it takes is adding a pop of color (may I suggest navy blue or orange) and then your room takes on an entirely new feel!

Another way to make a big impact on a tiny space without maxing out your credit card is with flowers! I love fresh flowers, there’s something that makes me so genuinely happy just by looking at them. The flowers I have in my room now are from a farmers market. How cool, right?

As you can tell I don’t like clutter. My philosophy: if it doesn’t have to be out, then put it away! I keep the jewelry I wear every day out on my dresser on a cute tray. Again, this is the perfect example of being deliberate with balancing decor and organization. Sometimes though, there’s no more storage space, and that’s when you embrace the space you have by displaying your belongings. See how I did that with my Louise et Cie shoe boxes and Prada pumps?
I’ve really taken advantage of every inch of this room, my bed isn’t pressed up against the wall for 2 reasons: 1) it would be difficult to make it every morning (yes, I make my bed every morning when I wake up at 5:30am for work…) and 2) because I’m able to hide a storage bin in that space between my wall and bed. If you walk into my room you can’t see my cute little flamingo drawers, which is exactly how I want it. I know they are there and that’s all that matters. These drawers house my beauty products that I don’t need daily and any kinds of medicine/first aid.
Speaking of hidden storage, this little ottoman that sits in front of my hamper is one of my best buys ever! I found it at Marshalls or Home Goods and bought it on a whim. Thank goodness I did! The inside is lined with pockets to keep your shoes organized and then the middle is a to of free space, allowing me to store a good number of handbags.
How do you maximize style in your minimal space? What color palette do you gravitate towards?
