Hey Friends! If this is your first time here, welcome to Style Inherited! I’m Helen and apparently this is my most viewed post on my blog. How funny!? When I originally wrote this post (March 30, 2018) I just wanted to share what I honestly thought of this new workout brand called Outdoor Voices, I had no idea that this would be viewed so many times!
The reason I wanted to update this post is because since March of last year I’ve spent a lot of time wearing my Outdoor Voices apparel and I’ve done countless workouts in them! I figured it’d be helpful for me to keep my original thoughts on the brand, but to also add in my current commentary- so keep reading all the way to the end to get that too!
I’ve been hearing all about this Outdoor Voices brand for a while now. It’s still relatively under the radar though, and hasn’t exploded into the mainstream exercise-gear-market yet, but after seeing a few of my favorite bloggers post about how amazing this brand’s exercise/lounge clothing is I knew I had to try it out. On another side note, I’ve been wanting white/light colored leggings for the longest time! My mom thinks they’re a bad idea/shouldn’t exist, butttt I love the look of white/off-white tights. Who agrees with me?!
Of all the brands out there, I wanted to try Outdoor Voices’ lightest colored leggings (they’re not white, they’re more of an Oatmeal…and are actually called “Oatmeal”) because I figured since they were so highly rated by so many bloggers that I wouldn’t have a problem with their leggings being see through. Let me tell you, I was wrong! Sigh…. (Side note: online the Oatmeal color looks almost white, but in person it is exactly what you’d expect an Oatmeal color to look like).
While I loved the material, cut, and feel of this legging & crop set, I have no interest in owning something that is completely see-through (these leggings are without question see-through in person), the only reason I’m posting these pictures here is because you can’t tell in the photos! Luckily Outdoor Voices has a great Customer Service team that was able to help me quickly exchange this Oatmeal set fo their slightly darker set, Dove (it’s a light grey). I’ll definitely take photos in my new set soon because I LOVE my new set. Ultimately, I had a good experience with Outdoor Voices, although it does slightly annoy me that they would even sell the Oatmeal leggings knowing full well that they are see-through. When I reached out to the OV Customer Service team about the leggings being see-through they were very straight-forward with acknowledging that they are indeed see-through and they suggested I just exchange for a darker pair. Soooo if you’re looking to buy a great pair of leggings or a fun athletic crop in a DARKER color then go for it! I would highly suggest OV, but steer clear of the Oatmeal!
A few details to note about this set: pictured are the 7/8 Warmup Leggings (XS) in Oatmeal and the Slashback Crop (S) in Oatmeal. I exchanged for the 7/8 Warmup Leggings (S) in Dove and the Slashback Crop (XS) in Dove. The crop is not padded and I would classify it as light/minimal support. I’m an A-cup so I could probably get away with going for a run in this crop, but honestly I think I’m going to save this crop for yoga/barre/hiking. If I do run it in though I’ll make sure to update you! Lastly on the fit of this crop–the fabric is pretty tight, meaning that since I always have a full face of makeup on I have to be reallyyyy careful putting it on and taking it off because it doesn’t stretch easily around the neck. Definitely read the reviews online to get other people’s opinions on this crop, but I like it!
Jan 2019 Add-Ons:
I probably shouldn’t admit the number of leggings I own…I justify it to myself though because I own so many different brands of leggings that it’s kind of like blogger-research, right? Ha, that might be a stretch! Of all the brands of leggings I own, my Outdoor Voices leggings are one of my favorite pairs, if not my favorite!
I wear my Dove leggings a lot more than I wear my Dove top, but when summer comes around, I live in my Hudson shorts. No, but really, I actually live in these shorts. For sizing, I wear the XS like I do with most shorts. They’re very short though so if you want something with a bit more butt coverage, then I suggest sizing up or checking out another OV style.
Am I glad I discovered the Outdoor Voices brand? Yes! I’ll certainly be buying more gear from them in the future (aka whenever I need a mid-week pick-me-up/motivation to workout)!
jacket: Banana Republic • leggings: Outdoor Voices • crop: Outdoor Voices • sneakers: old • sunglasses: Tory Burch
size down in the jacket unless you want it to be really baggy // I sized up in the leggings, but stayed TTS in the crop
