Each year I make and break the same resolution… drink. more. water. Ugh!! As someone who is ALWAYS cold, drinking water is especially difficult this time of year. Does this sound like the same boat you’re in? If so, I feel ya! Keep reading for 3 easy ways to drink more water and to learn more about why I’m FINALLY taking my hydration seriously!
I recently started working with a nutritionist out of New Zealand who specializes in a minor health issue I’ve been dealing with the last year or so. I’m fine, promise! Anyway, I learned from my nutritionist that I’m chronically dehydrated. Yikes. Basically, this means that I’m never thirsty because my body has normalized always being dehydrated. Double yikes! When I heard this it all sank in. I finally realized that it was time for me to take my hydration seriously. So let the hydration journey begin…
It’s been about a month and a half of taking my hydration seriously and lemme tell you, it’s not easy. I have to make a conscious effort every hour (I’m awake) of every day to remind myself to drink water. I’ve yet to find myself feeling thirsty, but maybe that’ll change at some point? I’ll consult my nutritionist and get back to you!
As instructed by my nutritionist, my daily water goal is 1.5L, which is a lot!! Of course I’m far from perfect and some days are more difficult than others… Please keep that in mind as I share my 3 easy ways to drink more water!
For me, I went to the grocery store and purchased a 1L bottle of water (I know, I’m sorry, I promise I recycled the plastic once I was done). For 2-3 days I just drank directly out of that water bottle, refilling it halfway from the tap to meet my 1.5L goal. After the first 2 days I had a slightly better sense of what my pace should be so that I wasn’t chugging a ton of water before going to bed.
After the third day or so, I started measuring out 1.5L of water into my everyday water glasses. This allowed me to see exactly how many glasses I would have to drink to meet my goal.
Honestly, I am wayyy better at meeting my goal when I drink out of a 1L bottle versus when I drink my water out of a glass. I’m not sure exactly why. I’m guessing it’s because I’m a super visual person and I like the idea of a “finish line.”
Here’s the thing, I’ve never been a huge tea drinker. I’ve always associated tea with being sick. Anyone else?? As someone who doesn’t drink coffee either, I’d never really had that morning drink ritual/routine. Well, that’s changed! Here’s the thing, there is a tea out there for everyone. Seriously! If you’re like me and skeptical about tea, you just haven’t found a flavor you love yet.
Since I’ve started taking my hydration seriously, each morning I now drink at least 2-3 cups of tea. I also put this marine collagen powder* in my tea. In addition to staying hydrated, I’m also getting the added benefits from the collagen! Yay!
*Side note: I did a LOT of research on marine collagen powders and they are NOT all created equally. Some of the most popular brands actually seem a little sketchy to me because they don’t identify the source of their marine collagen. Not only is that concerning because you don’t know whether your collagen is actually Non-GMO, but also because you want to make sure the company is using sustainable fishing practices.
So all this is to say, please make sure you do your research before buying the brand with cute packaging that everyone on IG is talking about. (Although I promise I’ve been guilty of this a time or two myself.) And if you don’t want to do the research, I’ve done it for ya! Shop my marine collagen powder here!
Back on track now…I personally love fruity teas. My favorites are: Peach, Blueberry, and Raspberry. You can purchase this sampler pack of my favorite berry flavors to try them all out (highly recommend).
P.S. I’ve been using this tea mug daily, I love its beautiful craftsmanship. Plus, the mug’s heart design just makes me smile!
I’ve noticed that I’m more inspired to stay hydrated when I drink out of beautiful glassware. Of course no one is surprised… Recently I’ve stopped drinking out of my everyday water glasses and have switched to some nicer pieces. It’s actually worked really well! I’m not sure why exactly this is, but perhaps I just take more pride in my hydration when I’m drinking out of something beautiful.
I’m currently rotating through some of these beautiful artisanal pieces from Juliska (one, two, three) and these sea grass woven glasses that my sister got for me.
Don’t miss out!
