Each year I make fitness goals and after a few weeks I quickly lose the narrative. Anyone else in the same boat as me here?! 2020 was a particularly rough year in the workout department for me. Filled with plenty of Netflix marathons, but very little running, it’s time to take a new approach to my workout routine in 2021! Keep reading to find out 3 ways I’m keeping my New Year’s fitness goals.
I’m kicking off 2021 with a 21 day express barre challenge using the OpenFit app. I’ve been using this fitness app for a little over a week now (it offers a 14 day free trial) and am really enjoying the class format & teachers! Each express barre class is only 15 minutes, but don’t be fooled. These workouts are no joke and will have you waking up sore the next morning!
So far I haven’t missed a day, and I don’t plan to! Starting with these 15 min classes has been the key to staying consistent & not skipping a morning workout. After this 21 day challenge, I plan on upping my daily workouts to 30 minutes.
In addition to my daily 15 min barre classes, I’m also making sure to get out on a nice walk with Ranger. Some days we go for 3-4 miles, other days we just go out for a mile. Either way, we’re getting out there and that’s what matters!
When in doubt, treat yourself! Ha, okay maybe don’t overdo it, but I 100% support this mindset within reason! My mom always says, when you look good, you feel good, you do good and it’s true! If you don’t feel good about your fitness attire/gear, then chances are you aren’t going to feel as motivated to actually workout!
Revamping your workout wardrobe & accessories doesn’t have to cost a lot of money! Some of my favorite workout wear is from Old Navy. Yes, really! (Honestly, I reach for my Old Navy leggings more often than my Lulu’s!!)

Something I started doing at the beginning of quarantine last year was writing down a list of items I wanted to accomplish the next day every night before bed. This wasn’t a “to do” list, this was a “to accomplish tomorrow” list. I think the distinction here is really important. A “to do” list doesn’t have a set start or end date, while my “to accomplish tomorrow” list had a very specific timeframe.
Before bed each night I write down 3-6 items that I need to accomplish the next day. Some items are so obvious and easy, like “get dressed before noon.” (Okay, that isn’t always easy some days!!) And I do that on purpose because the act of checking something off the list feels good. Other items on the list aren’t as simple, such as “go grocery shopping” anyone else feel like this is such a chore?!
While my “to accomplish tomorrow” list varies from day to day, it always has my workout on it. Going to bed with the right mindset, the mindset that already has committed to workout out the next day, is perhaps the most important key to keeping my New Year’s fitness goals. I hope you find it just as helpful!

Love your goal setting great advice for all!
They are manageable and achievable that’s the key…
Thank you Anna Marie! Manageable is definitely key to not getting too overwhelmed and giving up all together (which I’ve certainly been guilt of in the past!)
