There are a lot of amazing things to love about owning a Tesla Model Y! The speed, acceleration, technology, sleek interior, responsive handling, charging, and so much more. But one of the most underrated aspects of being a Tesla owner is the ability to accessorize your car with some amazing products. After months of research, I’ve put together a list of the 5 Tesla Model Y Accessories You NEED. Enjoy!
Thank you to 3D and Abstract Ocean for gifting me these items! As always, all opinions are my own and I only reached out to these brands because I truly believe in their products.
For those who might not think of floor mats as exciting, it’s time to think again! Simply put, these are the best floor mats I’ve ever experienced. Lighter and more stylish than your typical rubber floormats, 3D mats are a perfect fit for my 2021 Tesla Model Y thanks to the precise laser scanning and measurements that go into the production process. But the cool doesn’t stop there. The bottom of these floor liners have an anti-skid technology that helps them stay in place without damaging the original carpet like Velcro would (and without tearing up the carpet like many leading rubber floor mats do).
As you’ll see in my YouTube video, Ranger and I put these 3D floor liners to the test (even spilling an entire pint of Van Leeuwen Pistachio ice cream on them), and the floor liners passed with flying colors. They are also amazingly soft and comfortable on my feet, which is something I truly never thought about before getting these! I’ve listed this item at #1 on my list because not only have these Kagu All-Weather Floor Liners met my expectations, but they’ve turned what I always thought of as a “boring” or “utilitarian” accessory into one of the most exciting and stylish part of the car’s interior.
OK, first I need to admit that I left the temporary screen cover (and pink circular sticker) that came with my Tesla Model Y on for 21 days until this product arrived. That’s how excited I was! Think of it like this: what’s the first thing you do when you get a new iPhone or Android? Get a screen protector! It’s a must. Your 15-inch central screen is the brains of your entire vehicle and there are few things more important than protecting the screen from cracks, fingerprints, dust, and debris.
There are a lot of products out there, but this one is far and away the best. It arrives packaged in a protective case that includes easy-to-follow installation directions. All details are covered: wet wipes, dry wipes, and a patent pending installation frame are only some of the inclusions that make this screen protector so easy to install. For those who like a visual, Abstract Ocean provides a link to a crystal-clear installation demo.
The only real question is whether to go with the HD Clear Anti-Fingerprint or the HD Matte. The Matte will eliminate more of the fingerprints and will reduce the glare to a greater extent than the HD Clear, but it will perhaps detract slightlymore from the pristine image quality on the screen. I decided to go with the HD Clear because living in New England, I am not as worried about glare as I might be if I lived somewhere out west or in the south. I have also tended to be “more conservative” when it comes to phone screen protectors in the past (meaning I was willing to sacrifice some usability and the image quality in order to ensure safety). So I wanted to “risk it” a little more and not worry too much about a few extra fingerprints or a little more glare!
Let’s be honest, the first two items on this list were absolute must-haves. It’s a non-negotiable to have floor mats and a screen protector. Center console vinyl wrap? Maybe more of a fun accessory than a must-have. As you probably already know, my car’s interior and exterior are pearl white. So what better way to add some style than to transform my matte black console into a Satin White consol?
Abstract Ocean offers these vinyl wraps in a variety of colors. And as with its other products, this one comes complete with easy-to-follow installation instructions, a video link for those who like a visual, and even a squeegee! Abstract Ocean is the most renowned Tesla aftermarket accessory company in the world for good reason, so have some fun and try out a few different colors until you find one that you like!
If Ranger could write this review, I would ask her to do so. But she hasn’t yet learned to write, so I’ll let the picture below speak for her! When not buckled into her doggy seat, Ranger loves to hang out on the Seat Defender. With Polyester on the surface layer and a non-skid, environmentally friendly underlayer, this product has immediately become my best friend. It protects my white vegan leather seats and makes Ranger very happy!
While I haven’t yet had a need to wash the Seat Defender, it is 100% machine washable. So I imagine that at some point on our upcoming road trip to the White Mountains, Ranger will get nice and dirty and the Seat Defender will need to be washed!
This might sound surprising, but this was actually the most fun accessory to install. This is a neat little DIY installation that takes about 5 minutes (like with all Abstract Ocean products, the instructions are easy to follow and all materials are included). I chose the SpaceX emblem because I think it adds a little bit of flare and adds to the “space ship” feeling that I love about my Tesla. I think most people choose to add emblems to the back of their car, I found a really cool spot just above my driver’s side camera (pro-tip: if you can apply this on a cool day without a lot of rain you’ll have the most success, but we received 2 inches of rain within 8 hours of my installing this and there have been no issues whatsoever!).
From the practical to the whimsical, Tesla accessories can and should be all about fun and style. Each of the 5 accessories above have helped me either prolong the life of my car, protect it from the elements, or just made it that much cooler and different than any other car I’ve driven!
